NEW YORK
Solar contract help for New York homeowners
From Long Island and Staten Island to the Hudson Valley and Western New York, homeowners have signed solar agreements that didn't turn out as promised. We help New Yorkers understand what they signed and pursue resolution.
What makes solar in New York different
New York has strong solar incentives and a complicated set of utility rules. Depending on when your system was connected and your utility, such as Con Edison, PSEG Long Island, National Grid, NYSEG, RG&E, Central Hudson, or Orange & Rockland, your bill may include monthly charges that apply to solar customers and credits that work differently than a salesperson described. New York also has a large community solar market, where homeowners subscribe to an off-site solar farm. Those subscription agreements have their own terms and cancellation rules.
What we see most often in New York
- Savings estimates that didn't account for fixed charges on solar customers' bills
- Snow, shading, and shorter winter days reducing production below projections
- Leases and PPAs with escalators or unclear transfer terms that complicate home sales
- Community solar subscriptions that customers don't remember agreeing to
- Roof work complications on older homes
- Homeowners pressured at the door or by phone into long agreements
New York protections worth knowing about
New York's door-to-door sales law generally gives buyers three business days to cancel qualifying home solicitation sales. New York also regulates telemarketing and text marketing closely. If a solar agreement was misrepresented, state consumer protection law may apply. This is general information, not legal advice.

New York FAQs
I have a community solar subscription, not panels on my roof. Can you help?
Yes. We can review your subscription agreement, how credits appear on your utility bill, and its cancellation terms.
I'm selling my house and the buyer doesn't want my solar lease. What can I do?
We can review your transfer and buyout terms and help you understand your options before closing.
My production is far below the estimate. Is winter the reason?
Sometimes seasonal changes explain it, and sometimes they don't. We compare your production data with the estimate and the seasonal pattern you should expect.
Every agreement and every situation is different. Results vary, and no one can promise a specific outcome.
